About Us
Ian Dyer (known to his friends as "The
Major") was an active supporter of Warwickshire County Cricket Club
during the years 1970-90. His son, Robin opened the batting for the
County in the early '80s. Ian Dyer ran the Club Shop at Edgbaston for a
period and founded Ian Dyer Cricket Books in 1979. On retirement in
1990, he sold the business to his nephew, Michael Gauntlett and wife
Jennifer.
Michael Gauntlett was born in Surrey and - following his father - became
closely associated with cricket in the Guildford area at Brook CC and
Sydenhurst Ramblers CC in the 1950s. His job in the paint industry took
him to Lancashire in 1960 where he joined Southport & Birkdale CC and
subsequently served on its Committee. During this period he founded the
West Lancashire Cricket Society which continues to flourish today.
Michael married Jennie in 1964 and the couple returned south in 1967
where Michael became Secretary of Brook CC and ran tours for Sydenhurst
Ramblers during the 1970s.
In 1977, the Gauntletts - now a family - moved to Oxfordshire where
Michael became involved with Oxford Downs CC; qualified as a coach and
subsequently served on the Oxfordshire CCA Committee representing Under
13 cricket.
Finally, on their move up to Yorkshire in 1990, the Gauntletts developed
the book business and set up the first specialist Website devoted to
cricket books in 1997.
