100 Years of DURHAM COUNTY CRICKET CLUB
This is an informative statistical history and record of 100 Years of Durham County Cricket Club: without doubt one of the most successful Minor Counties Clubs.
Founded on Tuesday 23rd May 1882 in the Three Tuns Hotel, Durham City, Durham played friendly fixtures from 1882 until 1895 when they were one of seven Counties to play in the inaugural Minor Counties Championship, and Durham finished joint-champions. Since then Durham have won the Championship on eight occasions, 1895, 1900, 1901, 1926, 1930, 1976, 1980, 1981 a record jointly held with Bucks.
Durham played against every overseas Touring Team for many years with great distinction, and have a splendid record in one-day competitions. In the Gillette Cup, Durham played 15 games (a record for a Minor County); won 9 man of the match awards (a record for a Minor County); and became the first Minor Counties side to beat a first-class County with a memorable victory over Yorkshire in 1973. The County also hold a remarkable Minor Counties record of 65 matches without defeat, from 29, 30 August 1976 to 18, 19 August 1982, easily surpassing the previous record of 44 games by Surrey II, 1953-1956.
The book contains: statistics, pen portraits of players and officials, career records, batting, bowling and fielding records and scorecards, and a foreword by Mike Brearley.
